Family Strengthening Mobile App

Family Strengthening Mobile Application
I worked as the project lead and developed the application using React-Native for over two years for the Boston College School of Social Work and Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. The purpose of an electronic refugee interventionist service is to help refugee families and their interventionist partners work together. This project is funded by the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities with a focus on Somali Bantu and Bhutanese refugee communities in New England. The aim of this project was to create a culturally appropriate service that would help refugee families transition into everyday life in the States.

Modular Organization
When deciding which objectives were most important, it was crucial to consider the technological backgrounds of intended users. Simplicity was key in producing a user-friendly interventionist application

Select Between Cultures
The Family Strengthening Intervention for Refugees comprises two cultures: Somali Bantu and Lhotshampa Bhutanese. Families are to choose their respective culture to get an experience that is catered to them. Illustrations and vignettes are mindful of each individual culture. In future years, we plan on expanding the mobile app and integrating many different cultures.

Using the App
During the design process, ease of use was of utmost importance. We conducted Think Aloud testing to garner feedback and improve any problems or difficulties detected by our users. We came up with a “Using the App” section that would ultimately facilitate user experience and answer any questions they may have.

Illustrations
The app is confidential and I cannot share many exciting areas of it. When working on the complementary Family version of the app, I was asked to make illustrations to guide the users visually. These are just a few of my illustrations.
