Peace Project
This was my capstone project during my time at Design and Architecture Senior High. The purpose of this project was to design a peace park near the Miami Design District. Each component of this project is drawn by hand or rendered with Rhino.
Site Analysis for Prospective Peace Park
The first step in this process was to visit the site location and analyze its given properties.
Research
I researched preexisting memorials from all over the world for inspiration and guidance.
Concept Sketches
These concept sketches revolve around the circle. In other memorials and through researching other cultures, I found that the circle is a universal symbol with a multitude of meanings. The circle represents notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, infinity, God, et cetera.
Chosen Concept
I chose to create 3 domelike structures and render them similar to Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome. The circular design is prominent in all components of this Peace Park design. The architecture is meant to guide its visitors upward with a full view of the city around them.
Concept Illustrations
The progression of the dome is meant to create the feeling of enlightenment and peace. Shaded with diffuse and serene light, as you move upward within the dome, the light level grows.
Geodesic Dome
The image to the right is an experimental moss growth simulation using Houdini. In designing these projects I wanted to make a progressional experience that would leave the user at peace once at the top. I experimented with moss to create the ambience.
This geodesic dome simulation was created in Houdini with Mantra Engine.
