Machine Learning Installation
An experience crafted by interacting with artificial intelligence. I worked on this project as part of an Independent Study course in the Studio Art department at Boston College.

Concept Drawing
I envisioned a room where the walls could hear you and play back their own interpretation of your words. Ultimately, you would experience a conversation with Artificial Intelligence where you speak a word or sentence and the A.I responds to you through visuals and movement.

How it Works
When working at the Language Learning Lab at Boston College I was exposed to NLP or Natural Language Processing. I wondered if there was a way in which AIs could create their own art through the interpretation and understanding of language. I conceptualized an environment where AI would be responsive to your emotions and would interact with you based on how it interprets your words.

Interaction and Next Steps
The room consists of small indistinguishable microphones and projections. Once the guest speaks a word, the machine determines its meaning and then determines whether it is a positive or negative word. It then projects colors and patterns as an interpretation of the word spoken. Colors and patterns will overpower others depending on order spoken. By coding with open source NLPs and sentiment analysis, this creation materialized. Although I am still coding and in the prototyping phase, I hope to stage a beta level installation this spring.
The simulation above was created in Adobe After Effects!
